On the sidelines of the 1st Innovation and Entrepreneurship Conference in Saudi Universities, King Abdulaziz University signed a number of strategic agreements with international and local partners to enhance research and innovation in key sectors, including artificial intelligence, renewable energy, and water desalination, while supporting national talent development.
A key memorandum of understanding was signed between the university’s Center of Excellence for Artificial Intelligence and Data Science and a Chinese technology firm representing the Aerospace Information Research Institute of the Chinese Academy of Sciences. This partnership aims to apply AI technologies to combat desertification, manage water resources, and strengthen environmental and water security in Saudi Arabia.

Areas of cooperation include agricultural research using AI and remote sensing, development of smart tools for geological risk prediction, joint studies on sandstorm forecasting and air pollution, and the establishment of a joint AI and aerospace research lab. The agreement also provides for exchange programs, training, and capacity-building for specialists and postgraduate students.

In addition, several local agreements were signed with Saudi companies specializing in AI and data science training. These included collaborative research initiatives and a strategic partnership focused on water desalination and workforce development.

These agreements reflect King Abdulaziz University’s commitment to leading in applied research and innovation, contributing to the goals of Saudi Vision 2030 by advancing national expertise in high-impact technologies and strengthening the Kingdom’s global scientific standing.
